April Photo Highlights

A photographic look at life and community at PNCA during April 2013.

Every month or so, we present to you a few photos that capture the spirit of the community at PNCA. These snapshots celebrate recent accomplishments and memorable moments from life at the College.

After a month of exceptional weather, blue skies, and classes moved ‘en plein air,’ it’s a particular pleasure to look back at April through our photographers’ eyes and re-live spring at PNCA. The past month included lectures from such notables as Rebecca Solnit for the 2013 Edelman Lecture, and readings by Chuck Palahniuk, Lidia Yuknavitch, and Tom Spanbauer to celebrate the launch of PNCA’s new BFA in Writing. April also saw incredible progress on ArtHouse, the College’s new student housing community, which will open to its first class of residents in Fall 2013. Students took trips off campus: some to Westwind for the CT+CR Spring Colloquium, and others to Leland Iron Works, the Oregon City-based studio and property of Lee Kelly ’59, where they camped for four nights and built a sweat lodge. Young artists in PNCA’s youth arts program smiled and hammed for the camera, while BFA classes toured local galleries with alumni mentors.

You can sense the increase in momentum around campus as the academic year crescendos. Check back next month for photo peeks into graduate thesis exhibitions and performances, and Commencement festivities.
