Video, public art, photography, and painting are represented in the Portland art scene by PNCA students, alumni and faculty at Surplus Space, Openfest, Black Box Gallery, and PNCA’s Corner Gallery. Jodie Cavalier (MFA VS ’12), Stephen Slappe (faculty), and Thomas Gamble (BFA ’15), join up with others in a group show at Surplus Space called, I’m Against It, “about punk rock as an attractive nuisance,” curated by Thomas Nicolai (MFA VS ’14). Concurrently showing at Surplus is the HQ Objective Andre Filipek (BFA ’13) and Johnny Ray Alt (BFA ’14) co-curating Ad Hoc at Home by Sean Joseph Patrick Carney (MFA VS ’10) and Taj Bourgeois.

Crystal Schenk (faculty) and Shelby Davis, celebrated their work on the Division Streetscape Project at Openfest in Westmoreland featuring art installations along Division of small scale bronze figures on rock quarried from the Pacific Northwest. Teresa Christiansen (faculty) is showcasing at the Black Box Gallery with Melanie Flood in an exhibition called, Short Stories: Volume 2. This work was made while Christiansen was Wassaic Artist in Residence. Closer to home, Semblant Geometries by Heather Birdsong (BFA ’11) is showing at PNCA’s Corner Gallery. Be on the look out for another upcoming show at HQ Objective with PNCA alumnus, Matt Leavitt.
