Radio PNCA: Will Weigler in Conversation with Anne Marie Oliver
Author Will Weigler talks to PNCA faculty Anne-Marie Oliver about interactive and applied theater.
Award-winning author of the book Strategies for Playbuilding: Helping Groups Translate Issues into Theatre, Will Weigler joined PNCA faculty member Anne-Marie Oliver in the Radio PNCA studio for a thoughtful discussion covering; the history of theater, the role of interactive theater in culture and the philosophy behind applied theater.
Born and raised in Portland, Weigler has been involved for many years in “applied theater”—theater that is applied to the needs of a community. While in Oregon, Weigler co-founded and directed Young Actors’ Forum, a theater company dedicated to giving culturally and economically diverse groups of children and teenagers an opportunity to create and perform their own plays about the issues that matter to them.
Anne-Marie Oliver is a writer, photographer and documentarist whose work explores the intersection of art, religion and politics. She teaches in PNCA’s Intermedia Department. She has appeared on radio and television shows in the U.S. and abroad, including: CNN, C-SPAN, National Public Radio, the BBC, MSNBC, Air America and Fresh Air with Terry Gross as well as in print media.
